#2 - File Select

Welcome back to the LWP Newsletter numero dos!

I was going to plan on doing these weekly, but I am biting off way more than I can chew. So for now the new plan is with every release…and guess what???!!!!??? "FILE SELECT" IS NOW LIVE!

But first up…for those of you who tuned in for the Wave Race 64 cover we put out a couple weeks back, I honestly don’t know what happened to the release. The company that we have used to distribute our music had an issue with the art work/title which was resolved and edited on our end and I haven’t heard a word since. Lame would be a good word to use to describe that. I’m sure there’s a lesson to learn here, and I will be sure to share that with you when I know more. But thanks to everyone who listened and watched the YouTube video of that one. Here’s the link if you haven’t seen it and are feeling left out. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-EoKj2-qA4c

ONWARD AND UPWARD.

"File Select" is LIVE

For those of you who don’t know this song - when you start up Super Mario 64 for the N64, this song greets you when you are selecting a saved game, selecting a file…thus “File Select.”

I love this song. I love its melody, its emotion, it’s fun…it really can be anything you want out of it. As I was thinking of how to record this song, I couldn’t decide on having the song be hard hitting rock and roll or lean more towards an emotional ballad vibe. I like to think I settled somewhere in between.

My head was in the clouds flying around with Mario, so keeping a light, airy approach to the piano and synths was important. It is extremely fun to take a song like this and add rock elements. Trust me, it doesn’t always work. It can take hours to find a groove that feels like it belongs, but for this song it just worked. As always, at this point in our video game music cover adventure, we try and keep the song structure very true to the original, and to that point you’ll hear in this version of “File Select” that we don’t deviate far from the melody and use it to drive the entire length of the tune.

Brandon’s guitar work, as always, was played with such precision and created a ton of space for drums and bass.

Go listen, download, like, whatever the platform you find it on allows you to do, and then come back to me and tell me what you think. I know these songs are sacred to each of you (and me) so I hope to always get your feedback and do some bit of justice.

Welcome to the Family!

While we were wrapping up this tune, Brandon added a new guitar to the collection.

The Jackson Pro Series King V KVTMG. But he likes to call her “Penny”.

It is clear his favorite style of guitar, and sadly this one didn’t come in time to be featured on this song, but you will definitely hear it on future releases.

WTF is next?

As some of you know, we are on a N64 kick and though I don’t know how many more we will do in a row (specifically from N64 titles) I do know of two more heading your way. But drumroll please……………….

The theme from GOLDENEYE 007 is next! There is no reason to intro this song to any of you. You know it, you love it and we cannot wait to rock it for you! Mixing wraps up this weekend on the song, so I will share a sneak peek in the coming week.

Stay tuned everybody! Thanks for reading this and bearing with me as I sharpen my Newsletter writing skills.
